Environmental Education Programme in Fanling
This Environmental Education Programme, co-organized by three of our subject departments as a large-scale, school-based field study for 60 of our F4 and F5 Geography, Biology and Chemistry students, was conducted in Hok Tau, the upper course of Ng Tung River on 6 July 2023.
Upon arriving at the site, students were briefed about the physical environment of the sampling area and taught both the traditional and current ways to measure fluvial characteristics and sediment size. After conducting a biological survey for fast-moving organisms and another similar survey using a quadrat, they proceeded to measure dissolved oxygen level and pH values of the water. An interdisciplinary school-based guide was provided to highlight the fieldwork plan with space for students to record their findings.
We believe such hands-on experience can help enhance students’ fieldwork skills required in the 3 DSE subjects as well as their generic skills such as collaboration and problem-solving.

A Review of our Campus Health Promotion for Students and Parents (2022-2023)
Health and well-being are our top priorities. Our School Health Ambassador Team, consisting of 12 members of our Red Cross Youth Unit, has been set up to promote physical and mental health among all members of our school.
After providing health service to our teachers and non-teaching staff in March 2023, our service was also extended to students and parents.
During our Second Term Test, 4C Li Ming Chu and 4C Ke Yitong, our Head School Health Ambassadors, led the team to measure the blood pressure, pulse, blood oxygen level, body weight, body fat and Body Mass Index (BMI) of our students. Some students completed the mental health questionnaire as well under the guidance of our ambassadors. Students probably felt relieved on the last test day, and their health indicators were satisfactory!
During the PTA tea gathering in May, 3D Lin Huiyan and 3B Leung Nok Kin, our Senior School Health Ambassadors, set up a health promotion booth and provided health service including health advice to our parents, who pledged to build a healthy campus with us together!

Our Red Cross Youth Unit visited the Cheung Sha Wan Ambulance Depot on 10 July 2023. The officers demonstrated their treatments for paralyzed patients in accidents and the checking of vital signs such as blood pressure and blood oxygen level before arriving at the nearest hospital. Our students also learnt the basic principles of triage in times of mass emergency.
Dedicated to providing quality first aid services in the school’s important events like the Sports Day and Aquatic Meet, our team found the visit tremendously relevant and beneficial.

Hoi Ha Wan Coastal Ecology Education Programme
World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong offered a half-day education programme at Hoi Ha Wan on 4 July 2023 to enrich our Geography students’ knowledge of coastal ecology in Hong Kong. The programme aligns with the DSE curriculum on managing river and coastal environment.
Our students observed micro-organisms sampled nearby using a microscope and visited the shallow waters on a glass-bottomed boat. They marvelled at the various types of coral and spent a lovely afternoon there!

Visit to O · PARK1
Is O · PARK the Ocean Park? A number of students and teachers have asked us this question. Well, the answer is no.
On 30 June 2023, our Green Planet Club organized a visit to O · PARK1, the first organic resources recovery centre in Hong Kong.
The truck and workers demonstrated how local food waste is received at the centre for organic recycling and even generating power to be supplied to the CLP and distributed to the nearby residents on Lantau Island.
We also watched a multi-sensory video on the significance of food waste treatment in Hong Kong. What’s more, the officers showed our students bottles of the product. Being clean and odourless, it could be used to fertilize the soil for planting and greenery.

Media Education Workshop
On 8 July 2023, our students participated in a Media Education Workshop organized by the Journalism Education Foundation.
The day began with a fascinating visit to TVB City. Our students had the privilege of being guided around the news department by Mr. William Pun, a renowned anchor. Under his guidance, students tried their hand at reading the news while following the speed of a teleprompter.
After a morning filled with intriguing insights at TVB City, students visited the Hong Kong News-Expo. They learned about media literacy and how to say no to misinformation, acquiring the essential tools to distinguish between real news and fake news. Furthermore, they engaged in using professional broadcasting equipment, gaining an understanding of the technical operations behind news production.
The day offered our students a good glimpse of the world of journalism, enriching their understanding of the dynamic media industry.
