Water Race in Wong Tai Shan

Our Geography and English Departments jointly organized a water race on our school campus during the post-exam period in July. F1 and F2 students were divided into nearly 50 groups, with a mission to find the 30 checkpoints from the school library at the basement up to the special rooms on the top floor.

At each checkpoint, they had to answer one question related to water footprint or water use in their daily lives, such as its consumption in a set meal with 1 slice of pork (150g), 1 bowl of rice (200g), and 1 cup of lemon tea (20g lemon).

A popcorn machine was also stationed at our school hall, where extended readings were displayed by our STEM Department on the role of water in the making of popcorn. Our students were surprised that popcorn kernels contain 10% to 20% water. Once the water inside is heated up, it vaporizes, resulting in pressure that is high enough for the kernels to burst into butterfly/mushroom-shaped popcorn.

Our students were shown clips from the film Ratatouille while the marks were counted. Lastly, Our Principal Ms Chiu presented the certificates to the winning teams, the winning classes and their class teachers. The event rounded up with a group photo and we pledged to save our precious water resources for the sake of our next generation.
