Our student volunteers and teachers from the Moral, Civic, and National Education Section visited The Hong Kong Society for the Blind Kowloon Home and participated in a fluid painting activity with the elderly.
Our students offered help to the elderly with patience and care. They spent a heartening afternoon together, fostering connections and sharing moments of joy.
The activity allowed our students to have a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the visually impaired and inspired them to continue making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Our F.4 and F.5 Geography students were offered an education course at the Hong Kong Marine Life Stranding and Education Centre of Ocean Park in April. Experienced staff introduced the stranding cases of finless porpoises and Chinese White Dolphins. Our students then visited the Operation Theatre used for performing urgent surgical procedures and had the opportunity to interact with various marine species. The complex supporting network of the Grand Aquarium, a huge marine ecosystem in the park, was also thoroughly explained.
After the course, our students stayed to further explore the public education and environmental conservation efforts of the park’s attractions, such as the Rainforest and Polar Adventure. They spent a lovely afternoon learning in the park.
As a part of the 2023-24 Sustainable School Outreach Programme offered by the Environment and Ecology Bureau, a written report summarizing our students’ learning outside the classroom will be submitted to the Bureau.
Our selected theme for the 2024 World Book Day promotion is photography. The school library has arranged a themed book exhibition featuring recently purchased photography books and a related Cyanotype Workshop.
In the workshop, the coach, Mr. K.Y. Ha, demonstrated the technique and instructed our students in a step-by-step approach to develop their own cyanotype version of art pieces in a postcard format.
To equip our students to become future leaders, we launched a program called the “Brick Through Leadership Training Workshop” adopting the Lego SERIOUS PLAY methodology. Through Lego SERIOUS PLAY, our students gained a deeper understanding of empathy and its importance in leadership. They also learned the significance of verbal and non-verbal communication skills, developing the ability to express their thoughts, ideas, and emotions clearly and effectively. They became more aware of the role of collaboration in achieving common goals, how to navigate group dynamics and conflicts, as well as the value of self-reflection in personal and leadership development.
In this year’s Inter-house Basketball Competition organized by Yellow House, our players each demonstrated exceptional skills and determination, competing fiercely and displaying teamwork and sportsmanship. Thanks to the very generous subsidy from our school sponsoring body and Quality Education Fund (QEF), during the Easter holiday, our F.1 students participated in a study tour to Sze Yap to broaden their horizons and experience the culture as well as customs of Sze Yap, at the same time, further enhancing their national identity.
During the trip, they explored various places in Sze Yap, including Wuyi University, Lee Kum Kee (Xinhui) Food Company Limited, Kaiping Museum, Liyuan Scenic Area, Xili Village Scenic Area, Aofeng Park, Enping Library, Enping Museum, Taishan Museum, Overseas Chinese Cultural Museum, Fuyue Village, Haikou Port Yinxin Cultural Ancient Street, and Meijia. To further strengthen connection and professional exchange with Mainland schools, we have formed sister schools with Xinhui No.1 Middle School, a renowned school being rich in both culture and history.
This cultural journey not only allowed our students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the history and recent development of our country, but also deepened their appreciation of Chinese culture and heritage, as well as treasured values such as unity, responsibility, resilience, diligence, and compassion. This very first tour to Sze Yap enabled our students to reflect upon their future roles in contributing to the development of our country.
In order to support the Education Bureau’s promotion of national education in schools, we utilized funding from the “Sister School Program” to conduct an exchange program with Lianjiang Middle School during the Easter holiday. Apart from fostering interactions with Lianjiang Middle School, our journey included in-depth exploratory visits to various locations in Lianjiang and Zhanjiang:
Hedi Reservoir
Hechun Filial Piety Cultural City
Longjian Group Factory
Guangdong Institute of Arts and Sciences
Anpu Ancient Town
Baogang Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Com. Ltd.
