To strengthen the cohesion and teamwork within our Athletics Team, a two-day-one-night training camp was organized on Cheung Chau. The camp encompassed an orienteering activity, team building games, athletics training and adventure training. The activities have fostered the team’s mutual support and boosted their momentum to achieve excellent results in future competitions.
Some of our Forms 2 to Form 5 students had the opportunity to visit the DreamTec WHO GMP Laboratory and participate in a biotechnology workshop, in which they learnt about induced pluripotent cells and anti-aging research.
The workshop component covered techniques such as gram staining and bacterial cell culture. This is an invaluable chance for students to explore the exciting field of biotechnology and see cutting-edge lab work in action. The activity was meant to deepen students’ understanding of cell biology and biotechnology research, helping them gain insight into real-world applications of biotechnology.
Our recent Fujian history and culture study tour offered students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich heritage of China. By visiting UNESCO World Heritage sites in Fujian, they gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and history, fostering their sense of national identity. This educational experience allowed them to explore our country’s traditions, architecture, and natural wonders at first hand.
The annual Inter-house Dance Competition, organised by our four houses, was held recently. The inter-house entries, as well as the open group special performance, spanning various dance styles were all awe-inspiring. Both the dancers and the audience enjoyed the event.
Our Student Union hosted a singing contest after our second term exam was over. It was a good time for relaxation and entertainment. The contestants’ confident stage presence captivated the audience from the first note. Excitement and a highly supportive atmosphere filled the air.
Special thanks go to the adjudicators, professional singing coach Mr. Lau Chun Hei and our alumnus Mr. Chan Chun Hin, for their valuable feedback.
The Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC) recently launched the IFEC FinEd Hub, Hong Kong’s first digital experiential learning centre to provide experiential learning experiences on investor and financial education for people in Hong Kong.
Our F.4 Economics students visited the centre recently. The hands-on activities and interactive simulations fostered a deeper understanding of financial literacy, offering practical skills and knowledge that empower our students to make informed financial decisions in the future.
Meanwhile, our F.5 students studying Economics and BAFS went on a guided tour visiting the HKMA Information Centre. The tour allowed them to gain insight into the economic and social development of Hong Kong over the years. It was a valuable opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the subject content outside the classroom.
Four of our Form 5 Biology students, Cai Wang Yu, Poon Chun Yau Eric, Wong Kwai Ying from 5A and Chan Yik Kwan from 5B, participated in the Hong Kong Science Fair organized by the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation this year. During the process, they were trained in two workshops by experts at the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node Centre, receiving valuable comments on their programming and presentation skills. Their dedication earned them a Merit Prize in the Senior Form category.
Their project, “Savior”, aims to boost the population of native insects and plants having declined due to urban development and climate change. “Savior” is a self-operated insect hotel using the Arduino program. The Arduino board processes data collected by 6 light sensors, 2 water sensors and a solar panel installed on the roof top to initiate responses correspondingly, such as revolving the device to avoid sunlight and lowering the curtain to avoid raindrops, in order to provide the best living condition for the insects and thus help the pollination of native plants. If cameras are installed, photos of different insects and plants around can be captured and shared on online platforms such as iNaturalist while the collected data can be processed to achieve different investigation and analysis purposes by universities, institutions and environmental organisations. Their product can accomplish multiple objectives. Besides increasing the general public’s awareness, the mechanism saves a lot of manpower in terms of data collection and monitoring. It is hoped that “Savior” can contribute to saving and protecting the life of both pollinators and native plants.
