Empathy in Action: Benevolence Week
Organized by our Chinese Department, our Benevolence Week offered students a unique opportunity to put themselves in senior citizens’ shoes and understand their challenges through a series of interactive activities designed to simulate age-related difficulties.
Navigating the classroom in a blindfold to experience the world without sight
Trying a wheelchair to experience limited mobility and learning how to push one effectively as a carer
Wearing weighted vests simulating age-related physical strain
Having visited the elderly in Shek Kip Mei, our senior form students described the interactions and shared the insights with their schoolmates about communicating and connecting with older generations.
Teachers from other secondary schools and representatives from the Education Bureau also joined us during the week. Having fostered empathy and raised awareness of elderly care among students and visitors, we hope the compassion for old people’s needs will continue to inspire our acts of kindness towards the elderly in the community.
